OVD Upgrade Guide

Upgrade Walkthrough

The OVD One Touch Installer can be used to upgrade your OVD installation to the latest version.

Order of operations

Servers should be upgraded in the following order:

  1. Session Manager
  2. Other infrastructure servers - file server, provisioning server, ESG, etc.
  3. Application Servers, including templates

Upgrade Steps for Infrastructure Servers

Warning

Please ensure you have familiarised yourself with the release notes for the version you are upgrading to, that you have no users logged in (in any form), and that your Session Manager is in maintenance mode.

  1. Log in to your session manager and click the "Switch the Session Manager to maintenance mode" button. That button can be found at the following URL, or by clicking the Inuvika in the upper-left corner of the screen. 
    https://session-manager/ovd/admin/
  2. Connect to the Linux server you want to upgrade and elevate your shell to the superuser if you are not already root: 
    sudo -s
  3. Download and launch installation script, replacing the with the specific version code you wish to install: 
    curl -s https://ovd.one | OVD_VERSION=<version> bash
    or 
    wget https://ovd.one | OVD_VERSION=<version> bash

You will find the version code on the Inuvika OVD supported versions page. You may also contact Inuvika to request the code.

  1. After a short period, you will be presented with the welcome screen. Press ENTER to proceed with a preparation of the installation environment.

  2. Select "Utilities"

  3. Select "Update this server"

  4. The OVD One Touch Installer will now automatically upgrade your system to the version of OVD specified in the previous step. This will also update any out-of-date system packages beyond OVD to the latest available version.

Once the session manager upgrade is complete, proceed to upgrade the rest of your Linux infrastructure servers

Upgrade Steps for Windows Application Servers

  1. Download the appropriate version of the Inuvika Application Server installer from https://archive.inuvika.com/ovd//. The current version (as of 7/16/2025) is 3.4.2-526da687c5 so the URL would be: 

    https://archive.inuvika.com/ovd/3.4.2-526da687c5/.
    The full URL for that version of the Windows installer is: 
    https://archive.inuvika.com/ovd/3.4.2-526da687c5/Inuvika-OVD-3.4.2.7491-ApplicationServer.exe

  2. Open the downloaded installer and click install. Follow the prompts to upgrade your application server.

  3. Wait for the installer to finish. Once installation is complete, restart to apply the changes. Once the restart is complete, ensure that the OVD Slaveserver service is started.

Post Upgrade

Once all of the components are upgraded, navigate back to the session manager's main page and click the "Switch the Session Manager to produciton mode" button. This will return the farm to production mode and allow user sessions to resume.
